Giampiero Riggio - Seperations

I have no recollection of how I found the wonderful and now mysteriously vanished Centre of Wood record label, operating out of Italy, but I did find it. I found it around this time last year, and ordered some CDs and an obscure tape apparently from Norwegian forests performed by unknown musicians (but that's a story for another day). I want to talk about Giampiero Riggio right now, and his wonderful album Seperations, of which only 80 copies were made. They rightfully sold out, so I have uploaded it for your listening pleasure. This album, despite being by an Italian, boasts beautiful and harrowing English lyrics, which I certainly relate to. Whether or not you will I'm not sure, but the poetry within them should be easily apparent to anyone. This is a perfect album for November; a perfect wintry escape into reverberating feedback and nylon strings. I would recommend listening to this in your kitchen on a snowy morning, while asking your mother "Do you care I have finished my meals?".

Western Homes - Are Empty

Western Homes is the bedroom project of a friend of mine; one Ciarán Hoogendoorn. The kind folk(s) at Rack and Ruin kindly released his first album a while ago. It's a lovely little electronica collection comparable to Dntel. Funfact about this album; the majority of this album was recorded in the few weeks before he sat his leaving cert (serious business). I'd recommend listening to this under your sheets on a cold night, the window open, with the sound of light traffic accompanying.

Teengirl Fantasy - CD-R

Teengirl Fantasy are a neat ambienthousetronica duo. And yes, I did just make that genre up (I hope). Saw these duders recently and was pretty blown away. I really envy their delicious geometric synth/drum machine/etc. layout. I'd recommend listening to this in a tron outfit on the way to working nights in a 24 hour tesco.

At Night and Cole Miller - Songs at Night

This is easily my favourite split EP ever. I discovered this on the lovely pre-death/pre-resurrection cllct. This EP is all about the creaks, the accidental telephone ringing, the fuzz, the nylon strings, the pulse of knocking guitars. It's perfect. I'd recommend listening to this on an empty island as you forget your friends, as you forget your need of protein, and prepare to go diving for pearls. At Night & Cole Miller - Songs at Night

Thanksgiving - The River

Thanksgiving was the moniker of young Adrian Orange, of Portland, Oregon. A child prodigy of sorts, having his first album released at the tender age of 16, Adrian developed a friendship with fellow folkster Phil Elverum before skewering his style into a pretty neat ska style and then again into a Lucky Dragons-esuqe folktronic style. The album I'm posting here was before all that; a time where Adrian would play four chords throughout each song, and in no way is this a bad thing. I'd go as far as to say it's a good thing. The simplicity, honesty and youth in this album are what makes it beautiful. I'd recommend listening to this on a grassy cliff side as autumnal trees rustle far below, silouetted against a harvest moon.

Orion Rigel Dommisse - What I Want from You Is Sweet

Orion Rigel Dommisse could be described as the future child of Joanna Newsom and Phil Elverum, sent back in time to us via a wooden time machine built by futuristic 1/4 sized brown bears drunk on whiskey. Yeah, think that sums her up pretty well. I'd recommend listening to this while drinking yourself to death in a lonely Ukrainian cabin as Autumn slowly churns into Winter.

"Diane..." The Twin Peaks Tapes of Agent Cooper

This cassette is a companion (and cash in) to (on) Twin Peaks Season 1. It combines the moments from the show in which Dale is talking to Diane, with parts recorded specifically for the tape. I doubt anyone with no knowledge of Twin Peaks will be downloading this, but incase you are, don't. Watch the first series before listening to this, as it spoils it. Anyone who has knowledge of Twin Peaks, will know how fantastic it is, and I'm sure you'll find this tape interesting and enjoyable. I'd recommend you listen to this on a moonless night on the borders of a forest, or else in your office chair with a cup of hot black coffee.

Jeff Mangum - Live at Aquarius Records

This, my favourite Jeff Mangum/Neutral Milk Hotel bootleg of the ones I have heard, dates back to July 4th 1996. Aside from ITAOTS's "Oh Comely" and Holland 1945 B-side "Engine", these are either unreleased tracks or obscurer older tracks from the first few Neutral Milk Hotel tapes dating back to the early 90's (which I may post in the future). It's a must have for Mangum fans; from the beautiful and powerful Oh Comely companion piece "Oh Sister" to the frantic "She Did A lot of Acid" to the passionate "Sailing Through", this bootleg is simply bliss. I'd recommend listening to this on a chilly cycle in the small hours of the night through a nostalgic place of your choosing.

Bulgarian State Radio and Television Female Vocal Choir - Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares

I randomly aquired this (during a generous freeleech on what.cd) based purely on my seemingly motiveless fascination with Bulgaria. It turned out to be a lovely collection of (naturally occurring) reverb soaked Bulgarian traditional hymns. If you enjoyed Jeff Mangum's "Orange Twin Field Works Vol. 1" you will probably enjoy this. I'd recommend enjoying this in a place built of rough cut stone lit by candlelight.

Mahmoud Awad - Sheik to the Future

I downloaded this album off /mu/ a while ago, intrigued by the cover and the replies the thread was getting. I'm only listening to it now, but jesus, it's insane. The last.fm bio (written by a 17 year old Swiss citizen) claims that Mahmoud is "from the future," and that "there are no current records of his life, where he lives, or anything about him." It also claims that his album Sheikh to the Future is the first album to ever be sent back in time. It's clearly a joke by a /mu/tant with some spare time on his hands, but I'll be damned if it isn't funny and I'll even say it; catchy. Even listening to the music, it's believable that this could be a real Arabic musician, based on the lyrics (which I can't decipher/understand) and on the lovely Arabic beats interspersed. You have to download this, I'll give you two reasons. Firstly, the tracklist contains such gems as "المزيد من النساء ، وأكثر المشاكل (More Women, More Problems!!)" and "لا يمكنك أن تأخذ أموالي (You Can't Take My Money)". And secondly, the album art...Mahmoud Awad - Sheik to the Future
